Cyberpunk: the style, fashion and the miniatures

💥  The Cyberpunk in the Nutshell
for da Nuts in the Cells 💥

In the World of CyberPunk, people are all a bit crazee, a bit hazyy... and everyone has something to hide, behind their friendly smiles.

You know the cyberpunk genre, don't you? The sub-genre of speculative fiction and science fiction. The Love-Child of Fewerish Dystopian Future Visions whammed in the same cell with Punksters, Street Gangs, Heavy Metallist and totally Crazy Folks: And Kaboooom(!); We Have A new-Born Twisted Babeeeeh called CYBERPUNK!

It's not all flowers and happiness here... more like twisted mojos, traumatised people, poor ripping poor, rich ripping everyone, goverments and corporations on the war with each other... corruption, money laundry, street violence, crooked cops... and other nasty shite... If you're badly bruised, everything that You got has been taken from You, your apartment is blown up to pieces and your car was stolen, but You are still alive, breathing and kicking; well, that's a Good Day in the World of Cyberpunk... Hilarious, isn't it? Sure  ☝ C'mon in: it will be Fun, I promise! 👃

You know the Setting and the Realm of Cyber-Punk, Riiiight?! It's the place and mental state where the style is over the substance and substance-abusing is the new norm. Where Your streets are filled with trash (literally and metaforically speaking). Where the Net is Virtual Reality and the cybertechnics and abilities to surf the Net fast, give You awesome powers but also make You go insane. When it does not rain, You're either in the Net or either Dead. Either Way, in this game: You can just LOSE! But You should not never Give Up nor Never Surrender!

In CYBERPUNK genre, the streetlife and the survival on the wildlife of the urban gritty future IS the Key-Element. It's all about the Survival, babe!

In my two most recent blog post I write about the Cyberpunk 2020 rpg and its different versions, settings, variations, (THIS IS THE LINK to that blog post) and about comic books and roleplaying books and that kind of inspirational stuff (THIS IS THE LINK to that post). The latter blog post includes a video where I show the Cyberpunk 2020 rpg rulebook and whole lotta othe cool stuff. So in this blog post I do not have to tell those things again. This time I shall babble on about Cyberpunk genre, its style, fashion and about the cool miniatures to use with Cyberpunk styled rpgs 'n miniature games.

Are You readeeeh to step in the world of the Cyberpunk?!?

The style, attitude and pure COOLness in the CyberPunk genre books and roleplaying games goes always over the rules, laws and over the normal social rules, and beyond the reason(ing). The characters don't have to be the most toughest or the coolest street cats on the streets to get assigned to interesting missions. They just have to look and act that way that they know what they are doing.

The Jamiroquai: The Automaton IS CYBRPUNK to the core..

People wear mirror shades, cybernetics and wire cables in their bodies. They live fast, quick and dangerous life living in coffin motels, cheap hotels or living in their cars, or just simply moving around and squatting all over the city. The life is odd, and the human life is cheap. Very cheap.

In Cyberpunk, especially in gritty Cyberpunk and in Wasteland Cyberpunk sub-genre, it's always better look like a seriously dangerous lunatic and not to get mugged than to look like a sane person and to get mugged... Simple as that. Fair? Maybe not, but life in post-apocalyptic world life typically is not fair.

Because the looks and its coolness vibes are very important, the image: the habitus, the attitude, the style, the fashion are essential part of cyberpunking. Some people wear gang style clothing, some are fashionistas, some wear their police or guard uniforms on the streets, some wear leather, bandanas, biker boots, chains, rivets, spikes, horns or their hats/helmets(/or even in their head), and of course some folks wear cybernetics, metal and some hidden weapons in/on their bodies. Cybernetics and Net-using -skills can give You a lot advantages but getting too much metal and cybernetics in your body can bring You whole lotta unwanted disadvantages, disorders and melfunctions. And spending too much time on the Net Realms can also bring You whoooole lotta trouble, in deed. Going way too much over the Net and Over the Edge, it can shatter the Netter's mind or even burn the brains of the poor lost netwarrior soul...

What ever You wear or use, wear it and use it with Style, Attitude and with Whole Lotta COOLness. You gotta act COOL to be COOL.

Cuite many cyberpunk games are set in the corrupted western world, especially in the ripples of the United States. The Hell On Earth roleplaying game (and its revisited Savage Worlds -game Deadlands Hell On Earth) is literally set in the Western -themed Cyberpunk world. Characters are in the post Nuked, Wild West (Weird West, to be excact) desert where is weird cyberpunk technology, nightmare monsters and lunatic cultists. Very Original and very Interesting.

Some cyberpunk games have their settings in the Space, eg. in hard-sci-fi rpg 2300 AD with Earth/Cybertech Sourcebook  and adventure module Deathwatch, and the Cyberpunk 2020 setting book Deep Space.  Some cyberpunk adventures happen in the Islamic cyberpunk world, like in the classic When the Gravity Fails supplement for the Cyberpunk 2020 rpg. In the epic scale science fiction roleplaying game, with more than hint of cyberpunk elements, the INFINITY RPG, there is even its own Islamic planet called BOURAK. The Bourak is a desert world, discovered by the prophets of  Haqqislam. The  Haqqislam (meaning the New or True Islam) fraction is the dominant neo-Muslim culture in the Infinity rpg; and in Infinity miniature war game also.

Haqqislam folks of INFINITY the game

Classic indie game of surreal danger, the Over the Edge roleplaying game is set in the alternative world with the alternative timeline, and especially in the fictional (or so the Goverment propaganda workers has made You to believe) mediterranean island of Al Amarja. Its interesting mix of arabic culture, african culture, jamaican culture, surrealism, conspiracies, wild street gangs (one of them has tough figting baboons) and odd cults, mind-controlling devices, patrolling peace patrols, literally furry strippers and ratlike rat-human -hybrid prostitutes, and other very interesting, dangerous, and gritty activities and adventure gangs. And, yes, it really has cyberpunk elements just as much as You want to use. Interesting Rotten to the Core supplement for the 2300 AD rpg (with the earlier mentioned Earth/Cybertech sourcebook) happens in the post-apocalyptic Africa.

Welcome to the Wildest and Weirdest island in the World: The Al Amarja
The classic roleplaying game Shadowrun mixes gritty near future cyberpunk with classic fantasy settings and throws even a tiny bit of  the wild/weird west to the mix. Hint of urban fantasy, conspiracies, and cyberpunk detectives, too. So there's many kind of magics, cybernetics and  cyber-samurais, active scene of orc heavy rock, lethal dragons, rocker elfs and other interesting stuff, in the cuite original world of Shadowrun.

So Cyberpunk is not just one kind of world to dwelve. It is many kind of worlds and settings. Many kind of gaming styles and gaming mechanics. And many kind of flavours of the style, the look, and the action. And that is so awesome with cyberpunk style, You can make cyberpunk settings and games in many possible ways. And that is just cool that players can choose from different kinds of settings, worlds, games and supplements. What ever style, setting, system or game You shall pick (or to make yourself), there is whole lotta interesting material in cyberpunk and its all subgenres and styles. And there is already endless possibilities to adventure in the Worlds of the Cyberpunk genre. And whole lots of backstories, miniatures, bases, terrains, videos, movies to use ase props and backdops for your cyberpunk rpg/& miniature gaming sessions...

Some Necromunda -bases and other cool stuff for Cyberpunk -gaming... #PaintingWarhammer #Necromunda #NecromundaGangWars #GangWars #miniaturegaming #cyberpunk #KrisseTuominen

There's some totally cool Necromunda bases (in the picture right above!) to use with Cyberpunk -themed roleplaying games and on sci-fi miniature gamin g sessions. "The Necromunda 32 MM Bases X 10" are Games Workshop products, and on the pic above, those bases are painted by Yours Truly Krisse Tuominen. Bases are, on the pic,  over the Halloween-themed catalogue of Teknikmagazinet, and on the Background You may notice part of the Official D&D miniature Carrion Crawler, that is also painted with my own hands (plus using paintbrush and paints, of course)...  All together, these bases and miniature fit well with eg. Shadowrun gaming,  or with Judge Dredd rpg or 2000 AD rpg or Judge Dredd miniature game, or with the Deadlands: Hell On Earth rpg,  or with Hardwired tabletop wargame, or maybe for some Fate Core sci-fi -setting, or with the WH 40 K (and the Necromunda [Gangs  and Gang Raids supplement], or with the Cyberpunk rpg / Cyberpunk 2020 / V3.0 / CYBERPUNK RED (Jumpstart Kit)...

Coloured Mirrorshades are like caps in da hood. People wear them because the are not a fashion statement. They are part of being cool. And besides, both can used to hide symptoms of substance abusing (read: too much drugs).

The miniature in the poser's hand (guess who is in da pic?! Tehehe!) is called the Human Cultist. It's a mini by Wizards of the Coast for the Wrath of Ashardalon board game. It is obviously meant to be used with the fantasy setting(s), but it fits juuust fine in the gaming table when eg. Judge Dredd, Over the Edge or Shadowrun are played.

Necromunda bases and two fantasy miniatures, all painted by Yours truly, Krisse Tuominen.

Like I have mentioned earlier, and as You can see from the pictures, Necromunda bases are totally  cyberpunk themed bases. The brainie mini above, on the right side is called Grell and it is also a mini by Wizards of the Coast for the Wrath of Ashardalon board game. The Orc Boss miniature above on the left, in the picture, is miniature of Grenadier's Fantasy Personalities. The exact details are : 1125 Orc Psycho (M378), Sculptor: Andrew Chernak. The link to wiki page of Grenadier miniatures. Those minis go well in hand in hand, in my honest opinion. Right kind of miniatures for Over the Edge, Shadowrun or even Cyberpunk 2020 or Cyberpunk Red. Especially when the hallucinations kick in or when the netrunners run in the wilderness of the Net, anything is possible.

These beautifully painted cyberpunkers are three punks rom the Judge Dredd Starter Set. Painter and the photographer is  Adam Pulman. This pic is published by permition of Adam Pulman and all the copyrights belong rightfully to him. Thanx once again for the permition to use this awwsum picture of cool looking punksters!

The Judge Dredd rpg and the Judge Dredd miniature game of gritty skirmish battles was mentioned and linked earlier above, and I gotta say that the game really uses well its background materials. The building blocks, maps, terrain and the well-crafted miniatures are just superb dark 'n gritty science fiction characters with a personality. Very usable for hte cybepunk gaming purposes! And there's even some freebie/pay what You want stuff, and whole lotta very affordable gaming material, for the Judge Dredd miniature game. I wanna make a shout-out to cool guy called Adam Pulman. He is very skillfully miniature painter and the punks above are painted by Adam Pulman.

Dirt, graffitis, warn-out cement 'n' asfalt, collapsing buildings, and dumpster diving are part of the dangerous nomad life of near future (or near past alternative time-line) life of the cyberpunksters. Pic's © & ℗: Yours truly, Krisse Tuominen, da nomad cyberpunkster.

This was just a surface scratch again in the cool world of the Cyberpunk. Hopefully this blog post have been useful or entertaining for the readers. Thanx for reading this far, and thank You for all the readers for your support and the feedback. See You in the near Future, puuuunk! Wishes Krisse Tuominen, cyberpunkker, blogist, female powerlifter and a cyberpunk nomad...
