Inspirational things for me as a game designer

These things have inspired me in my recent RPG projects

I am usually multi-tasking and there are usually several game tests and developments going on at the same time. Therefore it's impossible to name a single inspiration for my recent RPG project of mine. So, instead of classically naming the one inspirational thing for the latest publication, I'll do this a bit differently.

Here are some inspirations, reasons, and reasonings behind my most recent RPG projects and products. 

* The sheer need for a certain kind of gaming system, character development style, or setting. 

Felt certain things myself and found like-minded people and we have been building the game and its settings around our shared and personal nerds combined... This resulted in several minigames this far and a whole lotta things under the works.

* My stutter, autism, ADD, and dyslexia combined bring a whole lotta weird words and sayings that can become ongoing puns. Or to evolve into game/scenario/entity/setting/adventure ideas and seeds.

* I have a very rich inner world in my head. 

* This game/system/rule/technique/style is seriously outdated/clunky/unnecessarily difficult, so I want to develop something better than that. At least, to me and for our gaming needs in my regular group(s)...

* Dreams.. Nightmares. Experienced dreaming or awake.

* Wanting to try what fun could merge using certain kinds of special dice. Especially experimenting with using different kinds of special dice with certain game rules and techniques.

Cyberpunk movies to inspire your genre gaming (plus some gaming stuff, too!)

Cyberpunk is a cool genre of books, movies, tv-series, comics, cartoons, clothing style(s) and various types of games. As a roleplaying game moderator, who likes to make own adventures for roleplaying sessions, I find it useful to watch inspirational genre movies.... And because sharing is caring, I'll tell You  about feeeeeew movies and videos that are worth to watch... Hardware (1990) is now days considered as a some sort of cyberpunk cult b-movie classic, and it's no wonder why that is the case. It has leather, darkness, violent fights, sorrow, pain, madness, robotics, cybernetics, far-out Net -audiovisuals, certain sexyness, coolness and whole lotta F-U -Attitude. And just look at that movie poster, I mean, just look at it! Not the world's best indie-flick, but worth to watch. Max Headroom: 20 minutes into the future (1985) is a television produced Cyberpunk movie. Even with its oddicities and glumsyness, the movie achieves to tell a interesting stor...

Praedoria toukokuussa jälleen Pispalan kirjastolla!

Praedor saapuu pelattavaksi Vuorelan Villen pe lauttamana Pispalan kirjastolle Praedor on Suomen suurin fantasiabrändi. Petri Hiltunen loi maailman ja sarjakuvat. Ville Vuorela on luonut roolipelin (uusin versio on kovakantinen toinen laitos) ja lisäksi novelli- ja romaanimateriaalia. Myös muiden käsistä roolipeli- ja kirjallisuusmateriaalia ja oheistuotteita (noppia, T-paitoja, hihamerkkejä, yms.) on syntynyt Praedorin maailmaa rikastuttamaan. Ville "Praedor" Vuorela on käynyt jo kahdesti pelauttamassa Praedoria Pispalan kirjastolla hyvinkin menestyneesti. Jälleen yleisön pyynnöstä Ville tulee jo kolmatta kertaa vetämään peliä ennakkoilmoittautuneille.  Praedoria vedetään Villen toimesta ennakoilmoittautuneille klo 14–18 Pispalan kirjaston tiloissa (Pispalan valtatie 21). Pelaajia mahtuu pelipöytään maksimissaan 5. Nyt vapaana 4 paikkaa (ti 24.2. klo 15:45 todettuna). Vanhojen pelien nostalgia: Ahh Ja!

Aina välillä minulta kysytään: "oletko nostalgiapelaaja?" tai "Tykkäätkö nostalgiapeleistä?". Tämä tekstini on rehellinen, mutta suhteellisen tiivis (silti humoristisen viihteellinen) esitys siitä, olenko minä roolipelaamisessa nostalgikko, vaiko en. Magnamund is fascinating gaming world and the series of choose your path books, and also series of (role)playing books. To me it was a one of the biggest and most influencing gateways to the fascinating world of roleplaying books. Still very usable good stuff.  Magnamund on kiehtova pelimaailma, ja monenlaisten (rooli)peli- ja seikkailukirjojen sarja, joka toimi minulle yhtenä vaikuttavimmista porteista roolipelaamisen maailmaan. Käyttökelpoista kunnon materiaalia vieläkin. Rune Quest (RQ), sen maailma Glorantha ja Sankarien Sodat olivat silloin minulle koukuttavaa kamaa. Loistavaa materiaalia vieläkin. More about the Cyberpunk 2020 roleplaying game and its different editions and settings

I totally liked the original Cyberpunk -The Roleplaying game of the dark future ,   originally  published in 1988 and  set in the year 2013. I really fell in love with the 2nd edition of the Cyberpunk game which was titled Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0 . and it was first released as a box set, in 1990. The revisited 2nd edition was released in 1991, and it is is even more excellent game, and it was also released as a totally awesome finnish edition.   I have to admit that I really enjoy the most of  all of these different  Cyberpunk 2020 editions, the Cyberpunk 2020 version 2.01 , which first saw light in 1993. And the 2013 & 2014 and printings after that are just practically the 1993 gaming book with a bit different cover. Because I haven't ever owned a single own copy of the gaming book, so recently, I went and got my copy from Fantasiapelit in Tampere. Deadlift parteee, yeah! Mavebilleet, jei!

Maastavetoa tein sunnuntaina ratoksi ja ajan kuluksi. 3*12-15*20 kg, 6*40 kg, 3*50 kg, 4*70 kg, 3*90 kg, 2*100 kg,  2*110 kg, 1*120 kg, 1*140 kg, 1*155 kg pitkällä yläpidolla ja hidas lasku alas, 1*165 kg pienellä pidolla alhaalla ja maltillinen lasku, 1*175 kg pitkähköllä ylhäällä pidolla ja oikein maltillisen hitaasti alas. Melkeinpä bodauksesta tuollainen käy, kun näinkin lämpimät kelit ja on negatiivinen vaihekin kera staattisen pidon käytössä. Nostin ensin185 kg polvien kohdille ja alas... ja sitten tein lisäksi 1*185 kg loppuojennukseen asti kera loppustopin ja rauhallisen alaslaskun. Tuon jälkeen touhusin hieman tuntumanottoa 195 kg rautaan. Joskus kulkee. Nyt ei kulkenut erityisen hyvin, mutta tulipa kuitenkin räpiköityä kaiken kaikkiaan ihan kivoihin rautoihin. Isoimpiin kuin ihan hetkeen... ehkä saattaa mennä APCONissa nostot ees ihan jees. Tai sitten ei, mutta parhaani yritän kuitenkin. Musiikkina toimi mm. Suotaunot, Amon Amarth, Legion of the Da...

Attack of the MetaPirates BETA file from DriveThruRpg and after quickish skim thru, I like it already. Vector! etc. is nteresting, intuitive, inspiring, witty and surely it is funny. Lunkisti lautapelaillen: Hanhipeli ja Masa Matkaaja -tuplapeliboxi

Masa matkaan jo käy ja hanhet ne vaan pelittää Tuli juhannusta varten varauduttua viihteellä oikein kunnolla. Kirjastosta lainasin useamman pelin, että on varaa mistä valita. Ja pelattavaa useamman päivän ajaksi.  Inkan Aarretta pelattiin päivällä kolmistaan ja illemmalla pelattiin Hanhipeliä ja Masa Matkaajaa. Samassa laatikossa kun on kätevästi Tacticin julkaisemana kaksi vanhaa peliä, Hanhipeli ja Masa Matkaaja.  Kummatkin pelit ovat klassisia heitä noppaa ja kulje laudalla - pelejä. Näissähän liikutaan noppaluvun mukaan. Liikkuessa kohtaa kaikkea enemmän tai vähemmän kiinnostavaa, jos sattuu ruutuun missä tapahtuu jotain.  Muutoin kisataankin ihan suoraviivaisesti liikkuen pelilaudalla alusta loppuun. Hän joka ennättää ensimmäisenä viimeiseen ruutuun, on voittaja. Simppeliä ja idioottivarmaa. Eli apinakin osaa pelata suoraan boxista. Etukäteen silmäilemällä Masa Matkaajan ja Hanhipelin numeroitujen tapahtumapaikkojen tapahtumia, totesimme ettemme pelaa kumpaakaan peli...

Lunkisti lautapelaillen: Inkan Aarre

Oikein mainiota kesää kaikille! Juhannuksena kokoonnuimme pienellä porukalla viettämään mukavaa juhannusta selvinpäin. Kävellen, rupatellen, syöden, limuja ja vissyä juoden, naureskellen, musiikkia kuunnellen ja lautapelejä pelaten. Lainasin etukäteen Sampolasta kirjaston puolelta muutaman lautapelin Juhannustelua vasrten. Yksi näistä oli Afrikan Tähden suunnittelijan uudempi jatko-osa-peli, Inkan Aarre. Näillä polttavan kuumilla ennätyshellekeleillä ei vaadi kauheasti mielikuvitusta, kuvitella matkaavansa kuumassa Etelä-Amerikassa. Tai Afrikan mantereella. Afrikan Tähti oli meille kaikille tuttu, kuten varmaan lähes kaikille suomalaisille lautapelaajille. Inkan Aarretta meistä ei ollut kukaan aiemmin pelannut. Päätimme siis kokeilla, millaista on pelata Inkan Aarretta. Inkan Aarre on Afrikan Tähden suunnittelijan tekemä uudempi peli. Käytännössä, jos osaat pelata Afrikan Tähteä, osaat pelata Inkan Aarretta. Afrikan Tähti lautoineen sijoittuu Afrikan mantereelle ja Inkan aarre Etelä-Am...
