Real life meets gaming needs on RPG table

Thinking about using real-world places as prompts for game designing

The Real-Wurld Dungion... An underground tunnel

The Question of the Day - Which old ghost towns, and abandoned cities, would make great dungeons if properly tweaked? Asking for a Friend -Nameless Game-Master and a GR8 Dungeon-Luuurd.

Let's map the map

The Answer to the Question

Pretty much any old mining town and its mines, storage buildings, and tunnels are more than fitting as a modern dungeon for RPG use. Especially if those places are scarcely populated. Or even abandoned. Also, almost any of the towns and cities that have a lot of old bunkers, trenches, tunnels, and underground safety builds, are perfect for modern setting dungeons. You can find lots of these kinds of locations, eg. in Russia, Hungary, Estonia, Ukraine (Pripyat and Chornobyl), Lithuania, Poland, and even some places in Finland...

Living in an abandoned bungalow area can be a reality in our real-life world and in a roleplaying world...

And because we are living in post-modern capitalism and neo-industrialism, there are abandoned building projects all around the world. Eg. in Tunisia, there are whole towns, city areas, and cities that were originally built for then certain hotel projects. Some were used for one period or another, and then simply abandoned for one reason or another. Some never were ever used. Some never were finished. In these kinds of places, there are whole hotels with cellars, underground parking lots, etc...

Obviously, industrial complexes, multi-story car parks, school buildings, university campuses, shopping malls, libraries, tennis halls, sports arenas, concert halls, opera houses, and other monumental places are great for the infinite dungeon crawl series. Just think about it. Most of the building complexes and areas of our daily modern lives are basically modern dungeons, post-modern castles, and post-futuristic tunnel cities in an industrial cities.

Under the road -tunnel areas for the bikers and pedestrians... I would call that
a dungeon system for a reason

This point of view opens many possibilities. Just take almost any city map and get blueprints of buildings, and voila, there's a dungeon you can use in your modern/sci-fi setting dungeon-romping adventures. Enjoy the idea, give it a hug, and have fun with it!

wishing You marvelous adventuring sessions!
